Brief introduction to the meeting:

The conference was jointly sponsored by the world gastroenterology Organization (wgo) and the UAE society of Gastroenterology and hepatology. Wcog has been held every four years since the first World Congress was held in Washington in 1958. Traditionally, wcog is rotated between the Americas, Europe and the Asia Pacific region. After 2017, wcog regional rotation will be officially expanded to Africa and the Middle East, and wcog will be held every two years from the meeting in 2019.

The world gastroenterology Organization (wgo) was founded in 1958, formerly known as the organization mondiale de Gastro ent é rologie - omge, and renamed as the world gastroenterology Organization (wgo) in 2007.
